Nonprofit Repositioning Fund
This funding opportunity provides financial support to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area for strategic collaborations that enhance their effectiveness and sustainability.
The Nonprofit Repositioning Fund supports strategic collaborations among nonprofit organizations operating within Pennsylvania’s Greater Philadelphia five-county region, encompassing Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. The Fund was established to enhance the long-term effectiveness, capacity, and financial health of the region’s nonprofit sector through structured and sustained partnerships. These partnerships may include a broad spectrum of collaborative arrangements—from voluntary back-office integrations and joint ventures to full mergers or acquisitions. In exceptional cases, the Fund also considers supporting dissolution planning for individual organizations. Administered through SeaChange Capital Partners, the Fund empowers nonprofits by providing grants to engage qualified technical assistance (TA) providers. These TA providers support grantees during exploratory or implementation stages of a proposed collaboration. The funding helps grantees analyze alignment potential, perform due diligence, develop integration strategies, and execute collaborative operations in a sustainable manner. A unique aspect of the Fund is its tiered funding approach, which aligns the grant amount and scope with the organization’s stage in the collaboration process. The Fund offers three types of grants: Seed awards of up to $2,500 are designed for organizations to conduct preliminary assessments or initiate alignment discussions. Exploratory grants, averaging $25,000, facilitate in-depth feasibility studies and partner due diligence. Implementation grants, averaging $35,000, assist with one-time costs directly related to enacting a formal collaboration, such as legal, branding, or system integration expenses. These funding structures allow for a flexible and responsive engagement depending on where organizations are in their collaborative journey. Eligibility is restricted to nonprofits serving communities within the specified five-county region in Pennsylvania. Applicants must propose projects that involve formal collaborations and must demonstrate the involvement of experienced TA providers. The Fund prioritizes applications that have the potential to improve service efficiency, expand organizational reach, or increase long-term financial sustainability. In rare cases, individual nonprofits may apply for dissolution-related planning support. To initiate the application process, organizations must contact the Fund’s Director, Lindsay T. Kijewski, at lkijewski@seachangecap.org. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and there is no stated final deadline or submission window. The Fund does not use an online portal for submissions; direct outreach to the Director is the first step in engaging with the Fund. Lindsay T. Kijewski, a Partner at SeaChange Capital Partners, leads this initiative and has a broad background in nonprofit governance and philanthropy. With academic and professional credentials in nonprofit leadership, she also teaches at the University of Pennsylvania and serves on several advisory boards. Her contact information serves as the central point for inquiries and application initiation.
