Grant Description

The Range Development Grants offered by the MidwayUSA Foundation are annual, competitive cash grants designed to support the expansion and improvement of existing shooting ranges. The primary objective of this funding opportunity is to increase the capacity for youth shooting sport activities, aligning with the Foundation's mission to sustain and grow youth shooting teams across the United States. Through this program, eligible applicants may receive between $2,500 and $75,000 to enhance their range facilities, provided the improvements are directly linked to a MidwayUSA Foundation endowment holder and meet a variety of stringent programmatic and fiscal requirements. Eligibility for the Range Development Grants primarily includes MidwayUSA Foundation Team and Agency endowment holders. These stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate with their associated ranges to identify specific infrastructure needs and develop strong applications. In some circumstances, the Foundation may consider applications from non-endowment holding entities such as conservation organizations, colleges, universities, or state wildlife agencies, provided that their proposed project has a direct and verifiable benefit to local youth shooting programs. However, Donor Designated endowment holders are ineligible to apply for this funding. The grant cycle runs annually from February 1st to April 1st. Applications must be submitted through the Foundation's online grant system, which requires that users already possess endowment holder status and access credentials for Survey Monkey Apply. Once submitted, all applications are reviewed competitively by the Foundation’s Range Development Grant Committee, and awards are made in June. Applications are judged based solely on their content, and completeness is critical. Applicants must provide detailed project budgets with supporting documentation, including quotes or bids, and a compelling impact narrative. Incomplete or poorly detailed applications will not be considered, and no clarification or outreach will be conducted by Foundation staff post-submission. Projects funded through the Range Development Grant must adhere to specific restrictions. Funds cannot be used for land purchases, new facilities, archery range enhancements, or indirect project costs. Each grant must support only one range and be dedicated to construction or improvements that demonstrably increase youth participation. A cost-share requirement exists wherein the Foundation will not provide more than 50% of the total project budget. Applicants must supply formal letters of commitment from other funding sources for the remaining budget. Any unused or misused funds are subject to return or legal action, reinforcing the Foundation’s emphasis on accountability. Grantees are required to submit progress updates at 3, 6, and 9 months unless the project is completed earlier, and final documentation is expected upon completion. Projects must be completed by April 1 of the year following award distribution. The Foundation reserves the right to conduct site visits or audits to ensure compliance with grant terms. This structured oversight and competitive selection process reflect the Foundation’s commitment to strategic investments that expand access and opportunity within youth shooting sports across the nation.
