Storey County Nonprofit Operation Support Grant
This funding opportunity provides financial support to eligible nonprofit organizations in Storey County, Nevada, that focus on restoring historic buildings or significantly benefiting local residents.
The Storey County Nonprofit Application for Operation Support Funds provides financial assistance to eligible nonprofit organizations based in Storey County, Nevada. This program is administered by the Storey County Business Development Department and supports organizations whose core mission is either the restoration of a historic building owned by Storey County or the substantial benefit of County residents. The grant program is structured as a competitive opportunity, and awards are determined through a detailed scoring system that assesses the clarity, relevance, and impact of the proposal. This grant is specifically available to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(19) nonprofits that are registered and located in Storey County. The total amount available for distribution in this funding cycle is up to $1,100,000. Grants will be allocated based on the overall score of each proposal, the number of applications received, and the total available funding. Organizations are explicitly prohibited from requesting more than 50 percent of their total reported expenses, and this funding is intended to supplement—not serve as the primary source of—a nonprofit’s operating budget. Applicants are required to submit a full application package by 4:00 PM on December 19, 2025. The application must be physically delivered to the Storey County Clerk-Treasurer’s Office in Virginia City, Nevada. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline. Awards will be disbursed quarterly beginning in July 2026, following formal approval by resolution of the Storey County Board of County Commissioners. All grant recipients must comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws and adhere to nonprofit best practices and professional standards. To be eligible, applicants must provide several key documents including their most recent IRS Form 990 (or equivalent), federal tax-exempt status letter, Nevada nonprofit registration or tax-exemption letter, Articles of Incorporation, proof of liability insurance (if located in a County-owned building), and a resolution or board acknowledgement approving the funding request. First-time applicants must also include a brief organizational history and mission statement. The evaluation process uses a standardized scoring rubric. Applications are assessed across multiple criteria, such as alignment with the organization’s mission, the clarity of the proposed goals and timeline, relevance and justification of the budget, presence of other funding sources, and defined benefits to either Storey County residents or a County-owned historic structure. Scores range from 0 (absent) to 3 (exemplary) in each category. Only applications that are complete and include all required documentation will be considered for funding. This program is authorized under NRS 244.1505 and is designed to support religious, charitable, or educational nonprofit organizations that operate exclusively for those purposes. Applicants agree to provide additional documentation if requested during the review process and are encouraged to attend the Board of Commissioners meeting where grant decisions will be formally announced.
