Green Grants

BGE (Baltimore Gas and Electric Company) offers the Green Grants program as part of its broader commitment to environmental stewardship. Rooted in BGE’s values of responsible natural resource use and pollution prevention, the Green Grants initiative provides financial support to nonprofit organizations implementing environmental projects within the utility's service territory. This program is part of BGE’s broader community engagement and sustainability goals, which aim to improve environmental conditions while strengthening connections between BGE employees and their local communities. Eligible applicants for the BGE Green Grants must be registered as 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Additionally, projects must take place within the geographic boundaries of BGE’s service area, with specific ZIP codes applicable. This territorial restriction ensures that the grant funds directly support the communities served by BGE. Furthermore, the program prohibits applications seeking support for basic operating costs or capital expenditures, focusing instead on initiatives that drive measurable environmental outcomes. The grants are designed to support both new and existing programs that clearly demonstrate a positive environmental impact. Projects can span several focus areas, including conservation efforts such as green space preservation, wetlands restoration, and wildlife or habitat protection. Other eligible initiatives include educational programs like public workshops and seminars promoting environmental stewardship, as well as partnerships and projects that enhance energy conservation on both small and large scales. The available funding ranges from $2,500 to $10,000 per awarded project. Every application must include a detailed budget outlining how the requested funds will be utilized. All funded projects are required to be completed before June 2, 2027, ensuring timely implementation and impact. Selected recipients will be notified of their grant status by June 1, 2026. Applications for the BGE Green Grants are due by March 22, 2026. The program does not accept late submissions. Additionally, organizations that receive a Green Grant during the current cycle will not be eligible to receive another in the same calendar year. This policy promotes equitable distribution of funding across the eligible nonprofit community.
