The USAID Thamini Afya (Value Your Health) program seeks to support improved health behaviors in Tanzania through Social and Behavior Change (SBC) interventions. The initiative focuses on strengthening the capacity of the Government of Tanzania (GOT) and related stakeholders to coordinate, design, implement, and evaluate SBC activities that address critical health challenges. These include maternal and child health, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and other public health priorities.
The program will provide up to $16.45 million over a five-year period. Eligible applicants include public, private, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations from both the U.S. and abroad, as well as academic and non-governmental entities. There is no requirement for cost sharing. The program encourages diversity and inclusivity by prioritizing the engagement of marginalized populations and promoting gender equality.
Applicants must submit a technical and business application with detailed project strategies, management and staffing plans, and budgets. Submissions are due by December 9, 2024, at 5:00 PM East Africa Time (EAT). Key program goals include increased government capacity for managing SBC interventions, the development of evidence-based SBC strategies, and the collection and analysis of data to inform decision-making.
Proposals will be evaluated on their technical approach, management and staffing capabilities, and alignment with USAID's priorities and objectives. Key personnel must have relevant expertise in public health, SBC, and program management. The program also emphasizes collaboration with government entities, private sector partners, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainability and impact.
Reporting requirements include regular progress updates, annual work plans, and financial reports. USAID will closely monitor the implementation process and provide substantial involvement in key aspects of the program to ensure alignment with U.S. government standards and objectives. The activity is scheduled to begin in March 2025.
