Kansas City Royals Foundation Royalty Fields Program

The Kansas City Royals Foundation’s Royalty Fields Program provides matching grants to support the renovation and enhancement of youth baseball and softball fields across the Midwest. Sponsored by Price Chopper, the program serves as an initiative to improve field conditions and increase safe play opportunities in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The program is part of the Royals Foundation's commitment to fostering youth sports, enhancing community facilities, and promoting active lifestyles through baseball and softball. Eligible applicants include verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and local government entities that operate youth baseball and/or softball programs within the designated six-state region. The grants are specifically intended for major renovations of fields, with an emphasis on projects that upgrade critical field infrastructure. Typical awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 and are issued on a matching basis. Applicants must demonstrate secured funds—either in cash or in-kind contributions—in order to receive matching support. If an organization applies without secured funding, they may be awarded only the amount that has been raised, contingent upon approval. Qualifying renovation items include new sod, infield improvements, fencing, dugouts, and other field elements necessary to ensure safe playing conditions. Non-eligible items include lights, bleachers, scoreboards, restrooms, equipment, and general maintenance expenses. The program prioritizes projects that address substantive safety or usability improvements and that are primarily focused on youth usage. Applications must be submitted through the official application form no later than October 10, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Central Daylight Time. Required attachments include photographs of the renovation site, a list of board or council members, the organization’s IRS 501(c)(3) designation letter (if applicable), and documentation showing the amount of secured funding available for the project. Incomplete or late applications will only be considered if funds remain after reviewing timely submissions, and the applicant may be required to reapply in the next cycle. Once applications are submitted, the Kansas City Royals Foundation may follow up with a phone call or site visit as part of the evaluation process. If awarded, organizations are required to submit a final report within one year of receiving funds. No new grants will be awarded to organizations with outstanding reports. Grant recipients must also display signage recognizing the program and are encouraged to organize a grand opening event with local media coverage.
