Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) Grant Program
This grant provides funding for artistic projects that promote cultural exchange between the United States and the Netherlands, supporting both emerging artists and established organizations committed to collaboration in the arts.
The Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) seeks to strengthen transatlantic cultural ties by funding exhibitions and performances that foster a high level of artistic and intellectual exchange between the United States and the Netherlands. The foundation supports both emerging artists and established organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to Dutch-American collaboration through art. With a focus on enriching cultural understanding and engagement, the NAF encourages innovative and collaborative projects that reflect the shared values and artistic diversity of both nations. The grant program supports a wide array of artistic endeavors, including live performances and exhibitions that highlight cultural dialogue. While the average grant size typically ranges between $1,500 and $5,000, proposals that fall outside this range are also considered depending on the project's scope and significance. Grants must be used to support specific line items within a larger budget and should clearly define how NAF funds will contribute to the overall success of the project. Funding from other sources is strongly encouraged, and the grant application must detail other committed or pending funding streams. Applications must be submitted at least six months prior to the anticipated project start date. Projects that are already underway or have concluded at the time of review are not eligible. Additionally, organizations or individuals who have received NAF funding in the past must wait three years before applying again. The NAF emphasizes the importance of proper attribution; grantees are required to credit the Foundation in all promotional materials using the official NAF logo. Following the project's completion, recipients must submit a final report within three months, including visual documentation for use in NAF promotional efforts. The NAF provides four grant review cycles annually, each tied to a specific submission window and notification schedule. Applications submitted between November 2 and February 1 receive a decision by mid-March. Those received from February 2 to May 1 are reviewed with results issued in mid-June. Submissions made between May 2 and August 1 receive notification by mid-September, and those submitted from August 2 to November 1 are decided by mid-December. While submitting a letter of intent is optional, it is encouraged for projects at least nine months away from their start date. Projects between six and nine months from initiation may proceed directly with a full application. The full application must include a cover letter summarizing the project, an itemized budget indicating specific uses of NAF funds, and relevant support materials such as letters from partner organizations and visual or multimedia examples. Applications must be submitted in English and present a clear timeline, project dates, and background information on key participants. Applications are not accepted via email, and NAF does not conduct meetings with applicants as part of the process. For inquiries, applicants may contact Maggie Maloney, Program Manager, at [email protected]. While a letter of intent can signal early interest, full applications undergo a thorough review by the NAF Cultural Committee and do not guarantee funding. This recurring opportunity underscores the NAFโs ongoing commitment to fostering mutual understanding and artistic collaboration between Dutch and American communities.
