Grant Description

The Junior League of Detroit (JLD) offers Community Assistance Grants aimed at fostering community-based collaborative partnerships. These grants align with JLD's mission to broaden educational, cultural, recreational, and health opportunities for children in Wayne County, while also promoting volunteerism. The program specifically seeks to address food insecurity affecting children in Wayne and Macomb Counties, focusing on initiatives that provide education, nutrition, and accessibility within this critical area. This strategic focus reflects JLD's broader commitment to improving the well-being of children through targeted interventions. The primary beneficiaries of these grants are children residing in Wayne County, with a particular emphasis on those affected by food insecurity. Organizations serving at least 75% of their clients in Wayne County and whose goals are to improve the health and welfare of children are eligible. The impact goals include expanding access to educational, cultural, recreational, and health resources, ultimately leading to improved health and welfare outcomes for children. By supporting programs that combat food insecurity, the JLD aims to create a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable youth. The JLD's priorities and focuses are clearly defined. They are interested in programs that provide education, nutrition, and accessibility related to food insecurity. The grants give preference to new projects or organizations, indicating a desire to foster innovation and reach new areas of need. The program will not fund general operations, salaries, stipends, transportation, or capital improvements, ensuring that funds are directed towards direct program services and measurable impact. This focused approach allows the JLD to maximize the effectiveness of its grant funding. Expected outcomes include a measurable improvement in the educational, cultural, recreational, and health opportunities available to children in Wayne County, particularly in addressing food insecurity. Projects should clearly describe their goals, outcomes, and objectives, and have an evaluation process in place for measuring impact. Grant applicants are required to provide a detailed explanation of the specific program for which funds are being requested, along with an itemized budget. This emphasis on measurable results and accountability ensures that funded projects are impactful and aligned with the JLD's strategic priorities. The JLD's theory of change posits that by investing in collaborative partnerships that address fundamental needs like food security and access to enriching opportunities, they can significantly enhance the quality of life and future prospects for children in their target communities.
