The McConnell Fund, managed by the Community Foundation of the North State, was established in 2001 as a partnership with The McConnell Foundation. This fund aims to strengthen communities by providing financial support for capital projects and equipment purchases across Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, and Modoc counties. Through this initiative, The McConnell Foundation extends its philanthropic mission of fostering community development and well-being.
Grants from The McConnell Fund are available for eligible nonprofit organizations and community groups operating within the designated counties. The maximum grant request varies by location, with applicants in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama counties eligible to request up to $50,000, while those in Trinity and Modoc counties may request up to $30,000. The funding supports projects in various focus areas, including Arts & Culture, Recreation, Environment, Community Vitality, Social Services, Health Care, and Children, Youth & Education.
The grant is specifically intended for the purchase of equipment and building-related projects. It does not fund administrative or operational costs, including salaries, consumable materials, planning expenses, or budget deficits. Additionally, grants are not available for endowment funds, annual fund drives, essential government services, projects benefiting individuals, sectarian religious purposes, land or building purchases, or improvements to property not owned by the applicant.
Applications for the 2025 funding cycle must be submitted by March 5, 2025. Organizations interested in applying should ensure that their projects align with the funding priorities and meet eligibility requirements. The selection process prioritizes capital improvements that contribute to community growth and sustainability.
For inquiries and application submission, interested applicants may contact the Community Foundation of the North State at their Redding office. Additional details on past grant recipients and funding history are available on the foundation's website.
