Floyd County Legacy Foundation Grant Program

The Floyd County Legacy Foundation administers an annual grant program designed to support initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents within Floyd County, Indiana. The Foundation operates as a private philanthropic entity governed by a Board of Trustees and is headquartered in New Albany, Indiana. Through its grantmaking, the Foundation seeks to address priority needs identified in the Priorities for Progress—Assets and Aspirations in Southern Indiana 2021 Report, a regional needs assessment developed in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana and Indiana University Southeast. The Foundation targets its funding toward projects that serve the communities of Floyd County, specifically New Albany, Floyds Knobs, Greenville, Georgetown, and Galena. While it may consider applications from organizations serving broader areas, funding will be restricted to the portion of projects that directly impact Floyd County residents. Such applicants must clearly document client distribution by county or state. The Foundation emphasizes accountability and requires comprehensive final reporting, including activity documentation, outcome summaries, media materials, and recognition of the Foundation’s contributions. Top funding priorities include vocational trade certification and other workforce development efforts, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and improved access to mental health services. Although the Foundation is open to applications in all categories identified in the regional needs assessment, it strongly favors proposals aligned with these core issues. Grant support is available for capital projects, equipment, and measurable programmatic interventions. The Foundation generally avoids funding ongoing operational or maintenance costs but may consider exceptions under unusual or urgent circumstances. Applicants must be tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3), be fiscally sponsored by such an organization, or qualify as a governmental or educational entity. Only one application may be submitted per organization during each annual cycle. Award amounts typically begin at $25,000, and proposals that incorporate matching or challenge funding are encouraged. If a Foundation grant is used to match another funder’s grant, disbursement may be contingent upon confirmation of the matching funds. All grantees are required to sign a grant agreement, comply with reporting standards, and provide recognition proportional to the Foundation’s support. The grant cycle opens annually on March 1, with applications due by March 31 at noon. Applications are submitted through the Foundation's online portal. In April, the Board of Trustees reviews submissions, with award decisions communicated by June 30. Disbursements are made by mid-July.
