Humanities Texas Exhibition Grants
This funding opportunity provides financial support to Texas-based educational and cultural organizations for hosting traveling exhibitions and related public programming that promotes engagement with the humanities.
The Humanities Texas Exhibition Grant is a funding opportunity designed to support educational, historical, and cultural institutions across Texas that rent a traveling exhibition from Humanities Texas. As a nonprofit and state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Humanities Texas aims to promote public engagement with the humanities by providing accessible, enriching exhibitions. Exhibition Grants provide modest but impactful financial support to enhance public programming aligned with the humanities. These grants offer up to $2,500 in funding and are designed to be straightforward to apply for and manage. They operate on a rolling basis year-round, with applications reviewed and decided upon within ten business days. All applicants must first book and confirm their exhibition through the online rental system before submitting their grant application. This cost-share grant requires a one-to-one match, which can be met through cash or in-kind contributions, such as volunteer time, venue use, or staff hours. Eligible applicants include a wide variety of Texas-based organizations such as libraries, museums, historical associations, cultural centers, city and county governments, community colleges, and school districts. All applicants must have a publicly searchable SAM Unique Entity ID (UEI). Fiscal sponsors are not permitted to apply on behalf of others, and applicants must be in good standing with Humanities Texas, with all prior grants closed unless exempt as a large entity. The Exhibition Grant covers costs directly related to the rental of Humanities Texas exhibitions and associated programming. Acceptable expenses include personnel, consultants, travel, honoraria, promotion, and program evaluation. The supported programming must be grounded in the humanities and accessible to the general public outside of a standard school setting, though programs that engage specific audiences such as teachers, cultural groups, or seniors are welcome. Common formats for these programs include lectures, book discussions, panel events, workshops, digital media presentations, and family nights. Applications are submitted exclusively through the Humanities Texas grants portal. Applications must be received at least six weeks prior to the start of the proposed grant period, which must begin on the first day of a month and coincide with the beginning of promotional or program activities. The selection process is managed by the executive director and staff under the Boardโs authorization and is based on alignment with organizational mission and the projectโs humanities quality, content, and audience impact. Preference is given to organizations in underserved counties and those that have not received recent funding. For assistance, applicants may contact the grants team at grants@humanitiestexas.org or call 512-440-1991. Humanities Texas encourages early planning and consultation to ensure strong applications and compliance with publicity requirements.
