Grant Description

The Maryland Livestock Processing Equipment Grant Program is administered by the Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation (MARBIDCO) to enhance the state's livestock processing capacity. This grant supports the purchase of livestock and meat processing equipment and facility upgrades to increase production, with a strategic focus on large-animal and blue catfish processing operations. Smaller-scale poultry processing projects may also be eligible for consideration. Eligible applicants include individuals and businesses currently operating, or planning to begin operating, livestock or meat processing enterprises in Maryland by no later than December 31, 2025. Entities such as sole proprietorships, partnerships, cooperatives, corporations, and limited liability companies (LLCs) may apply. The program requires applicants to match at least 50% of eligible project costs. Applicants can request a minimum of $5,000 in grant funds. There are two award tiers: up to $50,000 for USDA-inspected slaughter facility projects, which include meat and blue catfish processing; and up to $20,000 for other USDA-inspected facilities, secondary blue catfish processing intended for commercial distribution, custom-exempt operations, or mobile processing projects. All funds are disbursed either via reimbursement (with proof of payment) or direct vendor payment based on approved invoices. To qualify for funding, all equipment must be ordered or purchased no later than January 30, 2026. Additionally, grant funds cannot be used to reimburse expenses incurred prior to September 2, 2025. This ensures the funding supports forward-looking expansion rather than retroactive financing. Applications must be submitted by October 24, 2025. Electronic submission is strongly encouraged to expedite the process. For questions or to submit an application, contact Sierra Criste at scriste@marbidco.org or call (410) 267-6807. Paper applications can be mailed to: MARBIDCO, Livestock Processing Grant, Attn: Sierra Criste, 1410 Forest Drive, Suite 21, Annapolis, MD 21403.
