Senior Citizens Services Grants, administered through a fund held at Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF), were established in 2019 using the assets of the now-defunct Senior Citizens Services, Inc. (SCS), a former local nonprofit. The fund supports nonprofit and government entities in Pinellas County, Florida, that serve residents aged 55 and older, referred to as the ACT II generation. The program focuses on enhancing the quality of life for this population through a variety of direct service programs.
Grants are awarded for projects that align with key priority areas, including transportation, utilities assistance (covering water, gas, and electricity), homemaker and personal care services, elder abuse prevention, legal services, and kinship care. Kinship care is specifically defined as full-time caretaking provided by individuals aged 55 or older, including grandparents, extended family, or unrelated adults with a family-like relationship to the care recipient. These categories are intended to be responsive to community needs and may shift over time.
Eligibility is limited to organizations that are designated as 501(c)(3) nonprofits or government agencies. All funded activities and expenditures must take place within Pinellas County and serve individuals who are 55 years of age or older. Applicants must submit their proposals through the online application system and adhere to specific funding priorities such as housing, wellness, or senior support services. While applications from both social service and arts & culture organizations are accepted, preference is given to social services.
Grant awards range from $800 to $20,000 depending on the nature of the project, community demand, and available funds. Proposals are evaluated on a competitive basis, with particular attention to demonstrated community need and the organization's ability to complete the proposed activities. Required documentation includes a six-month and a 12-month Community Impact Report, with guidelines provided in the award letter. Failure to submit reports may disqualify future applications.
Grantees must publicly acknowledge support from SCS. This includes posting the SCS logo on the organization's website with a link to the PCF site, including the logo on relevant external materials, and accommodating annual facility tours by up to three SCS or PCF representatives, if requested. Exceptions must be pre-approved in writing.
Applications must be submitted online by the stated deadline and marked as complete. Incomplete or unsubmitted applications at the time of deadline will be automatically marked as abandoned. Questions or technical issues can be directed to grants@pinellascf.org or by calling 727-531-0058.
Prioritize community need and completion ability. Demonstrate service to adults 55+.
