West Bancorporation Foundation Grant
This grant provides funding to support programs that benefit low- and moderate-income individuals in the greater Des Moines, Iowa City/Coralville, and Minnesota areas, focusing on human services, education, and arts and culture.
The West Bancorporation Foundation is the charitable affiliate of West Bancorporation, the parent company of West Bank, a financial institution with strong community ties in Central Iowa, Eastern Iowa, and parts of Minnesota. The Foundation’s mission aligns with the broader corporate goal of fostering the growth and prosperity of the communities in which West Bank operates. Through its charitable giving, the Foundation prioritizes support for organizations and initiatives that directly benefit low- and moderate-income individuals in these regions. Grants from the Foundation are directed toward three main focus areas: human services, education, and arts and culture. Applicants are expected to demonstrate how their program or project serves low- and moderate-income populations and aligns with one or more of these priority areas. Due to funding limitations, not all eligible applications will be awarded, and each submission is carefully reviewed against established criteria and the availability of funds. The grant application process involves completing a PDF form, which can be downloaded, saved, and submitted either by email or by physical mail. The application must be accompanied by all required attachments as specified in the form. Submissions are accepted quarterly, with deadlines falling on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1 of each year. This quarterly cycle supports organizations in planning their engagement and aligning submissions with program timelines. The Foundation explicitly excludes certain types of organizations and uses of funds from consideration. These exclusions include endowments, fellowships, fraternal groups, individuals, political organizations, private foundations, and international efforts. Additionally, individual K-12 schools and certain city or government-supported organizations are also ineligible. The Foundation does make exceptions for organizations such as the United Way and independent college funds, which may redistribute funds under certain circumstances. For more information or inquiries, applicants are encouraged to contact Jill Hansen, Executive Director of the West Bancorporation Foundation. Applications may be submitted electronically to jhansen@westbankstrong.com or mailed to the Foundation’s office in West Des Moines, Iowa. Given its quarterly cycle, the program is recurring and predictable, which allows potential grantees to plan ahead for future opportunities if their proposal is not funded in a given round. The Foundation’s structured and transparent grantmaking process reflects its commitment to making impactful contributions within its service areas. It provides recurring opportunities for eligible nonprofits to receive support and is designed to foster long-term community development and empowerment.
