The LIFE Center Fund, managed by the Oregon Community Foundation, offers grants to support essential needs for residents of North, Northeast, and Southeast Portland. Established in 2005, this fund continues the work of the original Low Income Family Emergency Center by providing resources such as food, clothing, household items, prescription and hygiene assistance, and school supplies. The goal is to help individuals and families improve their quality of life through direct support.
Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations that serve Portland residents in the specified areas. Priority is given to smaller organizations where a grant between $7,500 and $10,000 can make a significant difference. Organizations located outside Portland may apply if they use the funds specifically for Portland residents. The fund encourages collaboration with local communities and requires clear identification of service sites and target populations.
Grants are awarded for two years with a maximum amount of $10,000 per year. Applicants must demonstrate how their programs align with the LIFE Center’s mission and show community involvement. Requests for general operating budgets will not be competitive under this funding opportunity.
Applications must be submitted by October 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., via email as a single PDF file including all required attachments. Organizations using fiscal sponsors are eligible but must ensure active oversight of grant funds by the sponsor.
Successful recipients are required to submit a report after the first year detailing activities funded by the grant and a final report at the end of the two-year period. This reporting ensures accountability and helps track the impact of funded projects on Portland communities.
This grant opportunity provides financial support aimed at addressing immediate needs within underserved neighborhoods in Portland. If your organization works directly with these populations and can clearly outline your program’s goals and community connections, you are encouraged to apply.
