Grant Description

The Artisan Entrepreneurs Academy is a six-week virtual development program designed to empower creative business owners in Illinois and Indiana. Made possible through support from the Etsy Uplift Fund, the program aims to provide structured business growth opportunities by combining educational sessions, peer networking, and direct financial support. Allies for Community Business (A4CB), the organization administering the program, brings its expertise in small business support to help ensure participants develop sustainable growth strategies for their enterprises. This initiative supports 100 existing for-profit creative businesses, offering them a comprehensive curriculum of weekly interactive webinars led by seasoned business coaches. These sessions are supplemented with optional small group discussions to encourage collaboration and idea-sharing among participants. Each entrepreneur is also given access to one-on-one coaching to tailor the learning to their individual needs. The program concludes with a $5,000 business grant awarded to each participant who successfully completes the full series of required webinars. The grant funds are intended to support business expansion and sustainability initiatives, although specific spending categories are not restricted within the guidance. Eligible applicants must be currently operational for at least 12 months, registered in Illinois or Indiana, and show revenues between $10,000 and $500,000 from their 2023 or 2024 tax filings. Additionally, businesses must maintain a business bank account and operate within designated creative industry categories, including but not limited to fashion, home décor, cosmetics, photography, and performing arts. Applicants were required to submit all pages of their most recent federal business tax return, a 2025 business bank statement, and valid photo identification. The application portal opened on March 25, 2025, and closed on April 25, 2025, at 5:00 PM Central Time. Participation in all six core webinars held between July 15 and August 21, 2025, was mandatory for grant eligibility, while the follow-up discussion sessions were strongly encouraged. Evaluation of applicants considered their stated vision for business growth over the next two years and how they expected the Academy to accelerate that growth. A balanced cohort representing a diverse array of creative disciplines was prioritized. Selection decisions were communicated via email prior to the start of the sessions. For questions or additional support, applicants could contact A4CB via email at [email protected] or by phone at (312) 275-3000. A make-up session was available for missed webinars, ensuring flexible access. While the current application period is closed, the structure and intent of the program suggest a likely annual recurrence.
