The City of DeKalb is currently accepting applications for its FY 2024 Human Services Funding, designed to support local not-for-profit organizations. Applications are open from September 30 to November 15, 2024, pending the approval of the city’s FY 2025 budget. Approximately $225,000 is expected to be available for allocation in 2025. The program targets organizations providing essential services to vulnerable populations, including individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, people dealing with mental health or substance abuse issues, victims of violence, children experiencing abuse or neglect, elderly adults, individuals with disabilities, at-risk children and youth, and households with low- to moderate-income levels.
The funding will prioritize service providers based on the nature of their offerings. First priority is given to agencies that address urgent needs, including food, shelter, and clothing. The second priority category focuses on services that are preventative and help individuals achieve self-sufficiency, such as self-care or self-help programs. Finally, services that improve the quality of life for individuals whose basic needs are met are also eligible, with a specific emphasis on programs benefiting low- and moderate-income residents.
New agencies introducing innovative solutions for underserved populations are encouraged to apply. New applicants must include a detailed service description, a demographic outline of the intended population, expected outcomes, a project timeline, and a budget that explains all listed expenses. Additionally, instead of providing an audit, new applicants must submit information about their accounting and procurement systems, cash handling, and record-keeping practices to demonstrate financial responsibility.
To apply, organizations must complete several forms: the Human Services Funding Application, an addendum for new start-up programs, a W-9 form, and a Human Services Funding RFP Checklist. Completed applications and all attachments are due by 5:00 PM on November 15, 2024, and late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
