Fee Assistance Program
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations that provide youth programs aimed at improving the quality of life for young residents in Pleasanton through initiatives in arts, culture, and youth services.
The City of Pleasanton offers a Fee Assistance Program through its Library and Recreation Department to support local residents who may face financial barriers to participating in recreational and educational programs. This initiative is designed to ensure inclusivity and equal access to a wide range of community offerings by helping eligible individuals and families offset the cost of registration and participation. Rooted in a commitment to community well-being and equitable access, the program provides financial relief to those residing within Pleasanton's city limits and who demonstrate financial need through documented public assistance. Applicants must be residents of Pleasanton and provide proof of residency such as a utility bill, rental agreement, or an affidavit from the Pleasanton Unified School District. In addition, proof of need is required through documentation of participation in public assistance programs like CalFresh, Medi-Cal, CARE Credit, or Social Security. The Fee Assistance Program allocates up to $300 per individual, per fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), to help cover the cost of participating in qualifying Library and Recreation programs. The applicant or their legal guardian is responsible for a 10% co-payment of all class and supply fees, which is due at the time of registration. Funds are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with no guarantee of full funding. Assistance is not retroactive and must be approved prior to registering for any class or activity. Upon approval, the funds are credited to the applicant’s PleasantonFun.com account and become available for immediate use on eligible programs. Applicants are encouraged to inquire about which specific programs qualify under the assistance program, as most but not all listed in the City’s Activities Guide are eligible. Applications are accepted year-round and can be submitted in person at the Recreation Services desk within the Pleasanton Library or by email with all required supporting documentation. Each household must designate an adult applicant, with additional family members listed as dependents within the application. Importantly, all application information and documents are treated as confidential. Outstanding balances on previous accounts must be resolved before a new application is considered. The City of Pleasanton does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, gender, age, medical condition, marital status, or religious belief, ensuring that all residents have equitable access to apply for this financial aid. There are no recurring cycles in terms of competitive deadlines, but rather a rolling application structure governed by the fiscal calendar and the availability of funds. Funds become available annually starting July 1. Questions about the Fee Assistance Program can be directed to Recreation Services at (925) 931-5340 or by email at [email protected]. Additional information, including the 2025–2026 Fee Assistance Application and Program Guidelines (also available in Spanish), can be accessed through the City’s website or directly from the Recreation Services office.
