The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) Primary Prevention of Cancer (PPC) program (RFA P-25.2-PPC) funds projects designed to reduce cancer risk factors and disparities across Texas. This award supports multilevel, evidence-based prevention interventions focusing on modifiable behaviors like tobacco use, obesity, physical inactivity, and vaccination for hepatitis B and HPV. It also includes programs targeting underserved populations in rural or medically underserved areas. The program specifically excludes research, focusing instead on implementing known effective prevention strategies.
Eligible Texas-based entities, including community organizations, healthcare institutions, and government agencies, may apply for up to $1 million over three years for new projects or up to $2.5 million over five years for expansion projects. Funded activities include community collaborations, public education, environmental policy changes, and preventive services delivery, with a required commitment to measurable outcomes and baseline data collection. Indirect costs are capped at 5%, and projects should avoid duplicating services already covered by other grants.
Applications are due by December 5, 2024, and must be submitted through CPRIT’s online system. Projects will be evaluated on factors such as their impact on priority populations, feasibility, partnerships, and cost-effectiveness. Annual reporting on project outcomes is required, with continued funding contingent upon successful progress.
