CHA Health Grant Program
This program provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and educational institutions in western Montana for health-focused projects that address health disparities and promote well-being among vulnerable populations.
The Community Health Alliance's Community Health Grants Program is designed to support health-focused projects across western Montana by funding nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. The program aims to promote healthier lives through strategic financial support, drawing on community partnerships and donor contributions. Established to address health disparities and promote well-being among vulnerable populations, the program emphasizes collaboration and impact amplification. The program operates in two cycles per year—spring and fall—with defined funding categories. The Spring 2026 cycle opens on March 17 and closes on May 13, with award decisions by June 15. Two categories are currently offered in this cycle: Rehabilitation Services and Education, supported by the Gavin Family Endowment, with $35,000 in total funding and a maximum grant amount of $10,000; and Maternal Health, supported by the Spierling Obstetrics Endowment, offering $10,000 total and up to $5,000 per grant. The Fall cycle will open in mid-September, with decisions announced in December. Its categories are not yet finalized, but typically include Rehabilitation Services and Education, and Diabetes Education. Eligible applicants must be charitable nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status (excluding private foundations) or educational institutions. Projects must address a relevant health challenge or opportunity within the stated funding categories and align with the Community Health Alliance’s mission. Preference is given to organizations serving children, families, and vulnerable populations in Western Montana, particularly those offering unique services and fostering collaboration. Applications from organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics are not accepted. The program also excludes applications benefiting individuals directly, supporting fundraising events or medical research, or intended for political or electoral purposes. The grant submission process begins with completing an application—available online or by contacting the office—and submitting the required documentation by the cycle’s deadline. Applicants may apply once per year per category and submit one application per cycle. All applications are reviewed for completeness and alignment with program goals before being evaluated by a grant review committee. Notification of awards occurs by June 15 for the spring cycle and by December 15 for the fall cycle. Organizations that receive a grant must sign and return a grant addendum before funds are disbursed. Payment is made directly via check. All recipients are required to submit a final report within one year of receiving funds. Site visits may be requested after the report submission to evaluate impact and implementation. The Community Health Alliance encourages applicants with questions or new to the process to reach out via phone at 406.926.2522 or email [email protected]. Their offices are located in Missoula, Montana. This program has supported numerous health-focused initiatives across the region since 2016, making a meaningful impact in the lives of western Montanans through direct community investment.
