Granite United Way Responsive Grant
This funding opportunity provides financial support to grassroots and community-based organizations in New Hampshire and Vermont that address urgent needs in areas like housing, childcare, and health, particularly for underserved populations.
The Granite United Way (GUW) Community Grants Program offers recurring, responsive funding designed to support nonprofit organizations that strengthen community well-being and address emerging needs in New Hampshire and Windsor County, Vermont. The program is managed by Granite United Way, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities. Since introducing this responsive funding model in the fall of 2024, GUW has distributed over $1 million to organizations across its seven-region service area, demonstrating a robust commitment to addressing critical and immediate needs. This grant opportunity provides short-term, flexible funding ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 per cycle. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) nonprofits or fiscally sponsored programs operating within GUW’s service area. Funds can be used for general operations, organizational stabilization, service continuity, or rapid response to emerging community needs. Applications are evaluated based on alignment with GUW’s five core Impact Priorities: Family & Youth Supports, Healthy Communities, Financial Stability, Housing Security, and Community Collaboration. To access the grant portal, organizations must register and create an organizational profile. Required registration information includes the organization's name, EIN, contact information, and a brief description. Once registered, applicants complete and submit a grant application with documentation such as the IRS determination letter, certificate of good standing, most recent financial statement, mission statement, and budget size. Applicants must indicate the specific GUW region they are applying to and describe how their initiative aligns with the relevant Impact Priorities. The application process is competitive and structured. Applicants are asked to describe their project or program, its geographic scope, the populations served, and why funding is necessary at this time. They must articulate 2–3 measurable goals, how success will be evaluated, and detail a realistic, goal-linked budget narrative. Applications are scored using a 30-point rubric by Community Impact Committees (CICs) composed of local volunteers. The rubric assesses purpose and alignment, relevance and need, goals and impact, outcomes and measurement, and budget clarity. The current application window opened on December 15, 2025, and will close on January 9, 2026. Funding notifications are expected in February 2026. Although this is a recurring opportunity offered multiple times per year, applicants can only apply to one region per cycle. There is no pre-application requirement such as a letter of intent for this opportunity. Organizations seeking guidance or regional-specific support are encouraged to contact the GUW Community Engagement Team. Contacts are available for each region, and a centralized inquiry line ([email protected]) is also provided for general questions. More detailed information is available in the program’s official guidelines document.
