Grant Description

The America250 Grant Opportunity is a themed subprogram within Georgia Humanities' regular grantmaking cycle, designed to support public-facing humanities projects that commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. This initiative invites nonprofit organizations in Georgia to explore the founding ideals of the American Revolution, their legacy, and their ongoing relevance in todayโ€™s society. Projects may address topics such as liberty, equality, democracy, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, especially as experienced and interpreted by diverse Georgia communities. Eligible applicants include Georgia-based nonprofit organizations, accredited colleges and universities, libraries, museums, historical societies, and local or state government agencies. All applicants must serve public audiences in Georgia. Individuals and for-profit entities are not eligible to apply. Each organization may receive only one program grant per fiscal year, and applicants who have received funding for two consecutive years must sit out one cycle before reapplying. America250 projects may take many forms, including but not limited to public forums, lecture series, performances, exhibitions, oral history initiatives, documentaries, podcasts, and place-based programs such as tours or installations. All projects must involve at least one humanities scholar and include at least one public gathering. Programs must be publicly advertised, free or low-cost to attend, non-partisan, and inclusive of diverse audiences. A 1:1 match in cash or in-kind support is required. Grant awards are capped at $2,500 per project. The application process opens on September 2, 2025. Applicants may submit an optional draft by September 17, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET for feedback. Final applications are due by October 6, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. Projects may begin as early as December 1, 2025, and must be completed within one year of the award date. All applications must be submitted online via Georgia Humanities' grant portal, and award notifications will be issued by November 17, 2025. A valid Unique Entity ID (UEI), obtainable through SAM.gov, is required to receive funding, though not needed at the time of submission. Review of applications is conducted by the Georgia Humanities Board of Directors. Evaluation criteria include adherence to the humanities focus, use of qualified scholars or tradition bearers, accessibility, scope of audience engagement, and alignment with the America250 theme.
