This funding initiative is part of the MC2026 plan for Mighty Change, which aims to drive measurable improvements in education, housing and homelessness, health, and workforce development. Organizations seeking funding must align their proposed programs and services with the priorities and bold goals outlined in the MC2026 plan.
The MC2026 plan sets ambitious targets, including increasing third-grade reading proficiency by 25%, boosting youth education and employment engagement by 38%, reducing homelessness by 50%, decreasing food insecurity by 50%, expanding access to affordable healthcare by 100,000 individuals, enhancing access to higher-paying employment by 20%, and increasing preparation for living-wage jobs by 33%. By funding organizations that support these objectives, Valley of the Sun United Way seeks to create sustainable change and improve the quality of life for Maricopa County residents.
Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or schools serving Maricopa County. The application deadline is 5 p.m. MST on February 20, 2025. A dedicated review committee composed of United Way staff, external industry professionals, and community members will evaluate the proposals. Funding recommendations will then be presented to the Valley of the Sun United Way Board of Directors for final approval. Organizations will be notified of their proposal status in June, with grant awards commencing in July.
The grant application process emphasizes the alignment of proposed programs with MC2026 priorities. Successful applicants must demonstrate a clear plan to contribute to at least one of the priority areas and outline how they will measure and report on their impact. Proposals should be comprehensive, detailing the program’s expected outcomes, target populations, and strategies for implementation.
