The City of Worcester's Health & Human Services Department has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking nonprofit partners to collaborate in a joint application for funding from the RIZE Foundation to address the opioid overdose crisis. The initiative aims to expand evidence-based interventions to mitigate the impact of opioid use through prevention, harm reduction, access to care, and recovery support. The City will provide up to $50,000 in matching funds for each of up to 10 selected projects, contingent upon the nonprofit organizations securing the RIZE grant.
Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations based in or serving Worcester. Proposed projects should focus on one or more of the following areas: preventing opioid use, implementing harm reduction strategies, expanding treatment access, or providing resources to support recovery, such as respite or sober housing. Proposals must demonstrate the use of best practices, collaboration with Care Massachusetts, and the utilization of local data to identify service gaps and community needs.
Selection criteria will emphasize addressing the overdose crisis, engaging historically underserved populations, and including the perspectives of those with lived experiences with opioid use. Organizations led by or primarily serving minority communities, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as youth, will receive priority consideration. Partnerships with municipal agencies, coalitions, and other stakeholders are also encouraged.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, project proposal, budget, and letters of support by November 1, 2024, to be considered. Selected projects will be required to participate in evaluation activities and comply with reporting requirements. The City's funding is conditional upon securing the RIZE grant, and grant agreements must be completed to receive funds. The City reserves the right to reject any application or modify the funding terms as needed.
