Grant Description

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, in partnership with the University of Connecticut, offers the Nonprofit Management Program for Emerging Leaders of Color. This two-year executive leadership program is specifically designed for middle-management nonprofit staff of color currently employed by nonprofits serving the Greater New Haven area. The initiative is intended to cultivate the next generation of nonprofit leadership, diversifying voices and perspectives in the sector. Eligible participants must have at least one year of nonprofit experience, aspire to advance to a CEO or higher-level management position, and intend to continue their nonprofit careers in the Greater New Haven region. Participants will engage in a structured training and leadership development curriculum. In the first year, the cohort meets twice monthly—once for a full-day in-person session and once for a 90-minute virtual session. The training is co-led by the University of Connecticut, and successful participants receive a certificate of completion and are eligible for academic credit (graduate or undergraduate). The second year focuses on the practical application of leadership skills, networking, and the execution of individual development plans. Participants’ nonprofit employers receive a two-year grant: the first year provides general operating support, while the second year’s funds are designated for the participant’s professional development. In addition, participants are eligible to receive a $2,000 scholarship toward future studies at the University of Connecticut. The application for the 2025 cohort opens on April 7, 2025, and the deadline for submission is June 6, 2025. Interested individuals are encouraged to prepare their applications promptly. Questions about the program should be directed to Jackie Downing, Senior Director of Grantmaking and Nonprofit Support, at the Community Foundation.
