Grant Description

The Hellene Henrikson Fund of the Lutheran Church of the Foothills, administered by the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, awards grants annually to nonprofit organizations. The grants address areas of focus selected by the Lutheran Church of the Foothills each year, with the current focus for the Fall 2024 grant solicitation being Behavioral Health. The fund's mission, in alignment with the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, is to honor community diversity and promote equal opportunities for all people. This overarching principle guides their support for organizations that do not discriminate in their practices. The target beneficiaries are individuals residing in Southern Arizona, specifically Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise counties, who benefit from programs addressing behavioral health. The grant aims to support nonprofit organizations doing charitable work in these areas. The fund seeks to achieve measurable impact by funding up to four applications, with a total of $60,000 to be granted in the Fall 2024 solicitation. The objective is to support programs that can demonstrate clear outcomes and measurable progress. The priorities and focus for the Fall 2024 grant cycle are explicitly behavioral health programs. Beyond this specific area, the fund prioritizes organizations that involve staff, volunteers, and participants in program planning and implementation. They also favor organizations that can clearly articulate and measure program outcomes, and those with plans for program or organizational sustainability beyond the grant period. While not exclusive, organizations serving families with children or seniors are also given consideration. The expected outcomes include the successful implementation of behavioral health programs that demonstrate measurable progress towards their stated goals. Grantees are expected to collect data to show these achievements. The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona's strategic priorities and theory of change are rooted in fostering an equitable community by supporting organizations that do not discriminate and by addressing critical community needs through focused grantmaking. This is exemplified by the emphasis on behavioral health for the current cycle and the broader commitment to diversity and inclusion.
