DCU for Kids Grant Program
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that enhance the well-being and development of children in need through educational, health, and wellness programs.
DCU for Kids is a philanthropic arm of Digital Federal Credit Union, dedicated to supporting children in need through charitable donations. This organization is committed to making a meaningful impact in local communities by funding programs that enhance the well-being and development of youth. Its charitable giving focuses on programs that offer educational, health, and wellness benefits to children, including those in underserved or vulnerable circumstances. The grant funding is directed toward nonprofit organizations that demonstrate a strong track record of service and program effectiveness. Eligible applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) organizations that have been operational for at least two years from the effective date listed on their IRS determination letter. Importantly, DCU for Kids will only consider requests that constitute no more than 20 percent of the program’s operational budget. Organizations are required to report outcomes associated with the use of the grant before being considered for future funding. DCU for Kids emphasizes that it provides monetary support only and does not fund event sponsorships, capital campaigns, or organizations with political, religious, or for-profit affiliations. Additional ineligible entities include colleges and universities, labor and social organizations, and organizations outside the United States. The grant excludes specific requests such as support for school bands, class parties, raffles, and sponsorship for athletic or fundraising events. Grant applications are reviewed quarterly, and each cycle corresponds to a specific three-month application window followed by a review month. For instance, applications submitted between December 1st and March 1st are reviewed in April. The process is managed via an online system and each applicant may submit only one grant request per calendar year. Applicants should prepare comprehensive documentation, including program and organizational budgets, IRS tax-exempt verification, a recent 990 form, annual reports, and detailed organizational overviews. Grant applications must include in-depth descriptions of the organization and program seeking funding, the number of children served, the cost per child, percentage of program budget covered by the grant request, executive and board leadership details, major sponsors and funders, and additional community engagement information. DCU for Kids reserves the right to request site visits or interviews as part of its evaluation process. The organization encourages applications for programs such as after-school and summer initiatives, STEAM and academic enrichment, school readiness efforts, youth wellness, mentorship, special needs services, and medical research. However, funding generally does not cover sports equipment, renovation projects, staff salaries, or stipends.
