Grant Description

The Storey Kenworthy & Workspace Foundation, operated by the Iowa-based business Storey Kenworthy and its affiliated company Workspace, provides philanthropic support through an annual community grant program. Deeply committed to social responsibility, the Foundation was established as part of the companies’ long-standing efforts to invest in Iowa’s communities. Since launching its grant initiative in 2016, the Foundation has prioritized sustained, employee-driven engagement with nonprofit partners across the state, aligning its financial contributions with causes that matter most to its workforce and to the local population. Each year, the Foundation awards three grants of $10,000 each to nonprofit organizations that demonstrate strong alignment with the Foundation’s three core giving priorities: Children Safety & Abuse Prevention, Support for Veterans & First Responders, and Food Insecurity & Nutrition. These focus areas are selected and periodically updated by employees every four years, ensuring that grantmaking remains relevant and community-informed. In 2026, these priorities remain in effect and continue to guide the Foundation’s decision-making. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with a physical presence in Iowa. The application must be submitted by someone directly affiliated with the organization, such as an employee, board member, or volunteer. In addition to completing the application form, each applicant is required to submit the previous year’s annual report and budget, the current year’s budget, and at least one letter of recommendation from a relevant individual. Letters may come from a current board member, a person or family directly impacted by the organization’s services, or a current volunteer. Applications that fail to meet these documentation requirements will not be considered. The 2026 grant application window is open from February 1 to March 31. Submissions must be completed by March 31 to be eligible. Applications are submitted through an online form, and applicants without Google accounts can request alternative access via email. Final grant decisions will be communicated directly to recipients in early to mid-May. Organizations selected for funding will also be asked to engage in post-award activities, including a presentation to the Storey Kenworthy & Workspace Community Engagement Committee during a mutually agreed-upon month in 2026, as well as providing marketing assets such as logos and photos for promotional use. Notably, the Foundation does not fund requests benefiting specific individuals or families, proposals outside its stated giving priorities, or those involving sports teams, athletic events, or galas. It also excludes applicants who were awarded grants in the previous fiscal year to ensure equitable distribution across organizations over time. The Foundation's approach underscores its commitment to meaningful, measurable community impact, with a clear preference for programs that demonstrate fiscal responsibility and quantifiable outcomes. By maintaining strict eligibility criteria and aligning with defined priority areas, the Storey Kenworthy & Workspace Foundation ensures that its grants advance its mission to improve the lives of Iowans through strategic, community-led giving.
