Dr. Phillips Charities Grant Program
This funding opportunity provides $5,000 to nonprofit organizations in Central Florida that focus on reducing economic hardship for low-income families and improving literacy for children and adults.
Dr. Phillips Charities is a philanthropic entity comprised of The Dr. P. Phillips Foundation and Dr. Phillips, Inc., both dedicated to improving the quality of life in Central Florida. The foundation focuses its grantmaking efforts on nonprofits serving Orange and Osceola Counties, with additional, limited contributions to select national organizations aligned with its mission. The organization is deeply committed to the legacy of the Phillips family, upholding the motto "helping others help themselves" through impactful and sustainable charitable giving. Grantmaking by Dr. Phillips Charities targets a variety of focus areas including Education, Children and Youth, Arts and Culture, Health, Social Services, Free Enterprise, and Private Property Rights. Preference is given to capital projects and innovative initiatives that address critical needs, demonstrate cost-effective and collaborative approaches, and show potential for sustainable community support. Funding is often reserved for high-impact programs that align with the foundation's strategic priorities and show evidence of strong organizational capacity and governance. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits that have been in operation for at least five full years following the receipt of their IRS determination letter. Supporting organizations must be classified as Section 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2). The foundation does not provide grants to individuals, private foundations, or organizations falling outside of their defined geographic or eligibility criteria. The grant application process begins with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) through the online portal. If there is interest, the organization may be invited to submit a full proposal. LOI deadlines correspond to three annual cycles: December 5, April 10, and August 5. Following LOI approval, full proposals are due by January 30, May 15, or September 4, respectively, with decisions announced in April, August, or November. Final funding decisions are made by the Boards of Directors, based on criteria such as documented community need, sustainability, and leadership. Grants under $100,000 may involve a site visit, while those over $100,000 may require a grant review meeting. Reports are generally due at the six-month and one-month post-completion marks, including financial and programmatic updates signed by the organization’s top financial officer. All grant reports must be submitted through the online portal, and spending must be in strict alignment with approved grant purposes.
