Vilcek Foundation Grant
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that support immigrant artists and communities, promote diversity in the arts and sciences, and enhance cultural understanding.
The Vilcek Foundation advances its mission by recognizing the contributions of immigrants in the United States and fostering broader appreciation for the arts and sciences. A core element of this mission is its grantmaking, which supports nonprofit organizations whose work aligns with these values. The foundation emphasizes a creative and impactful approach, aiming to support organizations that bring innovation and distinction to their service delivery, project design, or operational model. Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that focus on immigrants in the arts, sciences, education, or social services, provided they demonstrate originality and a clear alignment with the foundation’s values. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S.-based nonprofit organizations with valid 501(c)(3) status. The organization must operate within the United States or U.S. territories, and its activities and expenditures must also be U.S.-based. Additional documentation requirements include a signed W-9, IRS determination letter, a recent Form 990 variant, an audited financial statement, and both an annual and proposal-specific budget when applicable. Notably, organizations working with fiscal sponsors are not eligible, and the foundation does not fund scientific research, capital projects, fundraising events, or political activities. The Vilcek Foundation's grants are one-time, non-renewable awards. There is a mandatory two-cycle waiting period before past grantees may reapply. The application period for the 2026 Vilcek Foundation Grants is currently open and will close on April 30, 2026. The foundation encourages potential applicants to register via its grant portal and subscribe to its mailing list for updates. For any questions regarding the grantmaking process, inquiries can be directed to [email protected]. In addition to open application grants, the foundation also provides Institutional and Discretionary Grants, which are initiated internally. These represent a smaller subset of the foundation's overall grantmaking and are not open for general application. Evaluation criteria for the foundation’s grantmaking are centered on mission alignment, creativity, effectiveness of the proposed work, and the potential impact on the target population. The foundation values organizations that engage deeply with immigrant communities and employ innovative strategies to enhance their service or artistic outputs. The expectation is that grantees will use awarded funds to significantly further their missions and extend their reach to diverse audiences. Historically, grant awards have ranged from $10,000 to $20,000. For instance, in 2025, grants were awarded to the Anchorage Museum Association, Art Students League of Denver, Asia Art Archive in America, and BioBus, Inc., supporting initiatives ranging from exhibition development to diversity internships and STEM mentorship programs. These examples illustrate the foundation's commitment to funding impactful and community-rooted projects across the country.
