Dane G. Hansen Foundation Community Grant Fund

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation, based in Logan, Kansas, collaborates with the Greater Salina Community Foundation (GSCF) and the Greater Northwest Kansas Community Foundation (GNWKCF) to fund charitable projects that improve the quality of life across 26 counties in Northwest Kansas. Through a competitive grant application process, GSCF and its 11 affiliate foundations allocate funding specifically for projects in 14 counties, supporting various community initiatives. The grants aim to address a wide range of local needs, fostering development in multiple sectors to enhance overall community well-being. Grant funding is available for projects that fall into several key areas. In education, the grants support efforts to improve learning environments, expand student opportunities, and develop life skills and workforce capabilities. Health care projects are also eligible, particularly those that improve access to quality services and promote healthy lifestyles. Community social services and security grants are directed toward initiatives that improve access to social services, provide support for special needs individuals, and enhance disaster relief and emergency response capabilities. Conservation and environmental projects that aim to maintain high air and water quality and foster appreciation for natural resources are also considered for funding. Additionally, the grants support arts and cultural initiatives that enrich the community's cultural life, boost tourism, and encourage the exchange of ideas. Community beautification projects, such as the maintenance of public spaces, are included to promote local pride and social interaction. Preference in grant awards is given to applications that demonstrate strong community involvement and volunteerism, indicating a broader local commitment to the project’s success. The foundation encourages projects that bring residents together, fostering a sense of collective ownership and responsibility for community improvements. Certain limitations apply to the grants. Funding is not available to reduce or replace the regular budgetary needs of programs or projects that are typically supported by tax revenues. Additionally, grants cannot be used to support endowment funds or cover ongoing operational expenses. This ensures that the funding is directed toward new or expanded initiatives that provide tangible benefits to the community.
