Scientific Research Grants
This grant provides funding for innovative breast cancer research projects conducted by Florida-based non-profits, educational institutions, and other eligible organizations, with a focus on collaborative efforts that advance understanding and treatment of the disease.
The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) is a private nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of individuals affected by breast cancer in Florida. Through public support and collaboration, FBCF funds innovative education and scientific research initiatives throughout the state. FBCF prioritizes research that offers the potential to significantly advance understanding or treatment of breast cancer, particularly through collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches. The current funding cycle invites applications for the Scientific Research Grant, specifically designed to support pilot programs with a maximum funding limit of $100,000 for one year. These projects may encompass basic, clinical, or translational research; novel epidemiological studies; psycho-immunological research; or investigations into environmental links to breast cancer. Projects must align with at least one of the Foundation's 2026 priority areas, which include innovative diagnostic or therapeutic modalities, environmental factors in Florida, novel epidemiology, psycho-immunologic mechanisms, and forward-looking idea grants. Eligibility is limited to Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government entities, educational institutions, and federally recognized Indian tribes within the state. Out-of-state organizations may apply only if they maintain a year-round physical presence in Florida. All funded work must be conducted and expended within Florida. New investigators (within their first three years of a tenure-track or equivalent research position) and multidisciplinary teams are strongly encouraged to apply. The submission process consists of two mandatory phases: a Letter of Intent (LOI) due December 12, 2025, followed by a full proposal due February 13, 2026. Both documents must be submitted via ProposalCentral.com by 5:00 PM Eastern Time on the respective dates. LOIs are non-binding but required for application eligibility. Submission involves creating or updating a Professional Profile on ProposalCentral, followed by accessing the “Grant Opportunities” tab to apply for the FBCF Scientific Research Grant. Evaluation will focus heavily on the proposed project's transformative potential, particularly its ability to address understudied but critical issues such as recurrence, metastasis, susceptibility, or prevention of breast cancer. Reviewers will look for sound methodologies and clearly articulated pathways to meaningful impact. Funding may include up to 20% indirect costs, excluding patient care and equipment costs, and must follow NIH salary caps. Award recipients will be announced in June 2026, with the grant period running from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. This grant operates on a recurring annual basis. Any entity with an active FBCF grant must be in compliance and projected to complete their current project by the end of the grant period to remain eligible. Applicants with any financial or administrative convictions within the past year are ineligible unless remediation has occurred.
