Grant Description

The Emmet County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, is committed to enriching the quality of life for residents throughout Emmet County. Established to serve the philanthropic and developmental needs of local communities, the foundation administers an annual grant program aimed at fostering impactful projects and initiatives. By emphasizing long-term solutions and inclusive collaborations, the foundation channels both endowed and unrestricted funds toward transformative efforts that align with community priorities. The 2026 grant cycle supports projects in four core Impact Priority areas: Opportunity & Access, Health & Safety, Vibrant Communities, and Youth Empowerment. Applications are encouraged from nonprofit and governmental organizations that demonstrate clear, measurable outcomes benefiting Emmet County residents. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations and government entities. Other tax-exempt entities may apply if their proposed project is deemed charitable, subject to prior consultation with foundation staff. Groups that do not qualify directly may still apply through a fiscal sponsor that meets the eligibility requirements and is legally and financially accountable for grant funds. This competitive grant program welcomes applications that reflect strong community partnerships, long-term planning, and the capacity to drive systemic change. The foundation prioritizes requests that improve services, enrich resident experiences, and eliminate redundant programming. Organizations based outside Emmet County must clearly demonstrate local benefit, and applications focusing on volunteerism and community leverage will receive heightened consideration. The minimum request amount is $3,000, with a maximum of $20,000. The foundation may fund full or partial amounts based on the merit of the application and available funding. Applicants are required to use the designated budget template and submit supporting bids and estimates separately. While government departments and fiscal sponsors may submit multiple applications under specific rules, all other applicants are limited to one submission. Requests for operational or salary expenses are permitted but will receive lower priority. The application portal opens on March 1, 2026, and submissions are due by April 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM Central Time. A virtual grant workshop is scheduled for February 26, 2026, with Zoom drop-in office hours available throughout March and early April for applicant support. All applications must be submitted via the online CFNEIA grant management system. Applicants will be notified of the grant decisions in mid-June, and awards will be presented in July. Grantees are required to sign a Terms of Grant agreement and submit a final report by July 31, 2027, documenting outcomes and expenditures. Review criteria focus on organizational health, the strength of community partnerships, feasibility of execution, alignment with local needs, and financial clarity. Strong applications will demonstrate how they contribute to transformational change within Emmet County and leverage collaborative efforts. First-time applicants are encouraged to consult directly with program staff for guidance on eligibility and alignment to ensure a strong submission.
