Human Welfare Grant

The Human Welfare Grant is administered by the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation (EWVCF) through its Joan Roach Volunteer Fund for the Needy, with additional support from the Truist Foundation. The program is part of EWVCF’s Winter grant cycle and is dedicated to supporting charitable projects serving sick, needy, dependent, neglected, or disadvantaged individuals within West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle region, specifically in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties. Grants will be awarded to a broad range of eligible applicants, including 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(13) nonprofits, public schools, government or quasi-government agencies, churches, and civic groups, provided the funds are used for charitable, non-sectarian community purposes. Religious organizations may apply only if the purpose of the funding is secular and charitable. Public school teachers must register as individuals to apply, while other applicants should register as organizations through the EWVCF website. The Human Welfare Grant supports programs that directly benefit local communities and encourages applications from initiatives that celebrate diversity and advance equity and inclusion. Each applicant may submit only one proposal per funding category. Financial documentation is required depending on the applicant's charitable contribution level: those receiving over $300,000 in donations must submit a financial review, while those over $500,000 must provide a full audit. Additionally, 501(c)(3) applicants must be in good standing with the West Virginia Secretary of State and the IRS. The application window opens on January 16, 2025, and closes on February 7, 2025. All applications must be submitted through EWVCF’s online portal. Award notifications are expected by the end of March 2025. Interested applicants are advised to register on the portal early to access the guidelines and begin the application process.
