The Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) 2025, managed by the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, provides funding for teams of at least three alumni from U.S. government-funded or sponsored exchange programs to implement innovative community-based projects. Proposals must address themes related to improving resilience to natural disasters, addressing factors promoting irregular migration, advancing the rule of law, promoting economic growth, or building capacity in civil society, media, and academia. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2025. The program supports projects with budgets ranging from $5,000 to $30,000. Projects should be completed by January 30, 2026, and all activities must occur outside the United States and its territories. Eligible applicants include alumni teams with at least three members, but proposals may include implementing partners such as NGOs or academic institutions. U.S. citizen alumni may participate in teams but cannot submit proposals. Applications must include a summary of the project, goals, objectives, methodologies, and a detailed timeline. A budget and justification narrative in U.S. dollars are required, along with information on team members’ qualifications and roles. Local partners, communication strategies, and a monitoring and evaluation plan must also be described. Proposals should demonstrate alignment with public diplomacy goals, outline how they will measure success, and include a strategy for sustainability or leveraging additional resources. Activities and costs not supported include U.S.-based events, construction programs, direct social services, scholarships, and partisan political activities. Cost-sharing is encouraged but not mandatory, with examples such as in-kind contributions or reduced-cost services being favorable factors. Applications will be reviewed by a committee, including regional and program experts, based on alignment with themes, feasibility, alumni involvement, community engagement, and evaluation strategies. Selected projects must comply with federal financial management and reporting requirements, including regular submission of program and financial reports. Successful applicants will receive grants managed through electronic funds transfer, with no obligation for additional funding beyond the initial grant period.
