T-Mobile Hometown Grants
This program provides funding to small towns for community-driven projects that enhance public spaces and infrastructure, promoting local engagement and revitalization.
The T-Mobile Hometown Grants Program is a philanthropic initiative that supports revitalization efforts in small towns across the United States. Through this program, T-Mobile has committed up to $25 million through 2026 to fund community-oriented projects. The goal of the program is to strengthen local communities by providing financial assistance for initiatives that foster connections and improve public spaces. Managed in partnership with Main Street America, the program is designed to support shovel-ready, physical improvement projects that can be implemented and completed within a year of receiving the award. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations and local government entities. The program specifically targets communities with populations of less than 50,000. Applicants must be leaders such as elected officials, municipal employees, tribal leaders, or community-based nonprofit leaders with projects that have local impact. The initiative excludes for-profit businesses from applying and does not fund projects that have already been completed. Additionally, funds cannot be used for engineering or architectural fees, salaries, or operational costs. The program funds a variety of project types that aim to strengthen community connections. Examples include the restoration or adaptive reuse of historic buildings, upgrades to public libraries’ technology infrastructure, and improvements to outdoor community spaces like trails and parks. Applicants may request up to $50,000 in funding per project. Each project must include a detailed scope of work, budget, timeline, and list of required permits. Projects must be ready to begin upon award and completed within a 12-month timeframe. Applications should also demonstrate community engagement and alignment through up to five letters of support. Applications are accepted on a quarterly basis, aligning with seasonal windows: January–March, April–June, July–September, and October–December. The portal opens on the first day and closes on the last day of each quarter. Within 30–60 days after a quarter’s deadline, applicants will be notified of their application status via email. Selected recipients will also receive a phone call to initiate the planning and funding process with T-Mobile and partners. Approximately 25 grants are awarded each quarter. To apply, applicants must create an account through the application platform hosted by Main Street America. The application consists of several sections, including narrative responses, a detailed budget, project plans, and optional documentation like architectural drawings or maps. The review process evaluates applications based on community need, impact, engagement with local partners, feasibility within the budget and timeline, and alignment with T-Mobile’s mission of supporting small towns. Grant recipients are expected to provide project status updates at six and twelve months after receiving the award. The funding may cover a portion or the entirety of the proposed project budget, though matching funds are not required. In cases where the budget exceeds $50,000, applicants must detail how the remaining funds will be sourced. T-Mobile emphasizes the importance of feasibility and stakeholder support in the selection process, making clear and complete submissions essential for consideration.
