The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation Grant 2025
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that develop innovative economic education programs, particularly those utilizing artificial intelligence to improve learning outcomes and engagement.
The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation is a small, private nonprofit foundation dedicated to supporting impactful and innovative economic education programs. With a focus on fostering broad understanding and practical engagement in economic concepts, the foundation seeks to fund initiatives that demonstrate measurable improvements in learning effectiveness, particularly through collaboration with established economic education institutions. These may include councils, centers, universities, and colleges that have a proven track record of success in economic education. The foundation does not support projects based outside of the United States, nor does it fund overhead or indirect costs, and it generally expects to be one of several funders in a given project. The foundation emphasizes programs that leverage artificial intelligence to enhance student learning outcomes and engagement in economic education. Other priority areas include research on AI applications in economic education, the development or expansion of capabilities to broaden public access to economic learning, and programs with multiplier effects, such as training teachers or social workers who, in turn, educate others. Further interests include innovative curriculum development, behavioral economics with environmental focus, and efforts to generate greater excitement and demand for economic and financial education. Funding is open to nonprofit organizations with valid 501(c)(3) status and at least five years of operating history. Only these organizations may submit a letter of interest (LOI), which, if selected and approved by the foundation’s board of directors, may lead to an invitation to submit a full proposal. The foundation encourages applicants to propose reasonable funding amounts aligned with their program’s needs and is open to considering multi-year funding requests. There are two grant cycles annually. LOIs are due in early March, with funding decisions announced in June, and in early September, with decisions announced in December. The foundation accepts LOIs from eligible organizations that can articulate a clear plan, measurable goals, and alignment with the foundation’s priorities. The LOI form must be completed online in one session, and applicants are advised to prepare responses offline before submitting. The review process includes an evaluation of the program’s potential for collaboration with recognized economic education institutions, its innovativeness, scalability, and ability to reach wider audiences. Proposals that demonstrate cross-sector collaboration, the use of emerging technologies, and the potential for lasting impact are likely to be more competitive. For inquiries, applicants may contact the foundation at 602-456-0214 or via email at director@kazanjian.org. Detailed submission instructions, eligibility guidelines, and examples of funded programs are available on the foundation’s website. While specific award amounts are not disclosed in advance, applicants are encouraged to provide realistic budgets and identify additional sources of funding.
