Accessibility Grant Program
This funding opportunity provides financial support to Door County businesses, non-profits, and local governments to improve accessibility for the public through various enhancements and services.
Destination Door County (DDC), the official tourism and community engagement organization for Door County, Wisconsin, has launched an Accessibility Mini-Grant Program to promote inclusivity and enhance accessibility for both residents and visitors. This initiative is part of DDCโs broader "Care for Door County" campaign, which has been active since 2021 and supports sustainable and inclusive tourism, cultural, and infrastructure projects across the county. The Accessibility Grant Program aims to fund small-scale yet impactful improvements that enhance accessibility in public-facing spaces. Eligible applicants include businesses, nonprofits, and local government entities located within Door County. The program offers reimbursement grants of up to $1,000 per project, designed to cover a wide variety of accessibility improvements such as installation of ramps, ASL interpreters, automatic doors, adult changing tables, mobi mats, sensory-friendly features, and more. Projects must have been completed in 2024 or later to qualify. Applications are submitted entirely online and are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The portal opened on August 1, 2024, at 8:00 AM Central Time, and will remain open until funds are exhausted. Applicants must submit supporting documentation such as receipts, invoices, purchase orders, or contracts indicating the intent or completion of accessibility improvements. The application form also requires a project description and justification of how the improvements will enhance accessibility for residents and visitors. This program does not support projects that overlap with those funded through the Community Investment Fund, and short-term rentals must be in operation for at least 30 nights annually to qualify. The emphasis is on tangible improvements that yield immediate accessibility benefits while encouraging long-term planning and awareness around inclusive infrastructure. The program is facilitated by Amanda Stuck, DDCโs Community Engagement Manager, who can be reached by phone at 920.818.1132 or by email at amanda@doorcounty.com. Applications will continue to be accepted through the end of 2024, and a new round of funding is anticipated in 2025. Interested parties can access the application portal at https://www.doorcounty.com/accessibility-grant-application.
