Camelback Fellowship for Early-stage Entrepreneurs
This program provides funding and support to early-stage entrepreneurs in the U.S. who are dedicated to addressing inequities through innovative solutions in education and technology.
The Camelback Fellowship is a 16-week accelerator program hosted by Camelback Ventures that supports early-stage entrepreneurs who are committed to tackling inequities through innovations in education and technology. Camelback Ventures has supported more than 181 entrepreneurs since 2015, many of whom have achieved significant recognition and funding success. The program's core mission is to empower underrepresented founders by offering capital, coaching, community, connections, and a strategic curriculum to foster venture development and leadership growth. Applicants to the Fellowship must be over 18 years old, hold a leadership position in a qualifying venture, and reside in the United States or a U.S. territory. Ventures must primarily serve U.S. populations, with more than 50% of beneficiaries located within the country. Ventures should be original initiatives led by the founders and not operated under larger umbrella organizations. The program emphasizes alignment between applicant values and Camelback’s mission, encouraging prospective applicants to complete an alignment quiz to self-assess fit. The application process includes two primary rounds. Round one consists of a written application and video submissions, including a 3-minute pitch. Camelback evaluates both the entrepreneur and their venture for social impact, leadership qualities, and market understanding. Approximately 15% of applicants are selected as Finalists and invited to a 75-minute virtual interview conducted by Camelback staff, coaches, and alumni. Up to 16 Fellows are chosen per cycle, and all applicants receive feedback regardless of outcome. Each selected Fellow receives $40,000 in capital. For-profit and hybrid ventures receive this funding via a SAFE note or other investment vehicle, while nonprofits and schools receive unrestricted grants. Fellows also benefit from dedicated one-on-one coaching, a robust network of advisors and experts, and strategic support resources. Programming includes virtual sessions throughout the 16 weeks, with in-person gatherings at both the program’s kickoff and conclusion. Camelback Fellowship runs twice annually, with cycles typically launching in mid-winter and late summer. The current application deadline is September 10 at 6:00 PM CST. While no relocation is required, Fellows must be able to dedicate approximately 10 hours per week to the Fellowship. Participation is designed to support entrepreneurs in maintaining their existing community roots while scaling their impact. Throughout the Fellowship, entrepreneurs receive training in core competencies such as strategic planning, pitch readiness, stakeholder development, project and budget management, and team hiring and leadership. Camelback emphasizes the importance of psychological safety, particularly for marginalized entrepreneurs, and fosters a collaborative environment that helps founders build the confidence and infrastructure needed to achieve long-term sustainability and community impact.
