The Resilient and Connected Appalachians Grant Program is an initiative of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) under its broader Connectivity, Climate and Communities Fund. Now in its third round, this program continues to support strategic land conservation efforts that enhance ecological connectivity and resilience in the Appalachian region. The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental organization known for its science-based approach to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends, with a strong presence and long-term investment in the Appalachian landscape.
This grant program specifically aims to support land protection projects that involve either fee acquisition or conservation easements. These projects must align with TNCโs goal of landscape-scale conservation that enhances habitat connectivity, contributes to climate resilience, and provides long-term benefits for biodiversity. The focus is on protecting vital wildlife habitats and ecological corridors that help species adapt to climate change and prevent habitat fragmentation.
Geographically, the program is open to applicants within the Appalachian region, including all or portions of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. This expansive area reflects the ecological importance of the Appalachian Mountains, which support one of the most biologically diverse temperate forests in the world and serve as critical sources of drinking water for millions of Americans.
Eligible applicants include conservation and community organizations, municipalities, Federally Recognized Tribal Nations, and local and state agencies operating within the eligible states. Projects will be evaluated based on their potential to contribute to long-term conservation outcomes, their alignment with TNCโs landscape goals, and their capacity to enhance climate and ecological resilience across the Appalachian region.
The application portal will open on November 3, 2025, and the submission deadline is February 13, 2026. All applications must be submitted through the online platform, which requires applicants to create an account to access the system. Successful projects may receive up to $100,000 in funding. For additional information or questions, interested applicants can contact the program at CCCFund@tnc.org.
This grant opportunity is part of TNCโs broader strategy to respond to the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. Through coordinated regional conservation, the organization aims to safeguard critical ecosystems while also supporting jobs, recreation, and community benefits within the Appalachian region.
