Carlos and Marguerite Mason Trust Grant
This grant provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in Georgia that support residents in need of organ transplants, helping to improve the transplantation process and address related financial challenges.
The Carlos and Marguerite Mason Trust, administered by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., was established in memory of Carlos Mason by his wife, Marguerite Fugazzi Mason. Following her passing in January 1991, she dedicated the majority of her estate to this trust. The overarching mission of the trust is to improve the process of organ transplantation for needy residents in the state of Georgia. Grants are distributed exclusively to nonprofit organizations holding 501(c)(3) status and located within Georgia that are capable of providing financial assistance to residents in need of organ transplants, including but not limited to transplants of eyes, kidneys, and hearts. The trust allocates its funding to specific types of support that directly assist with organ transplantation efforts. These include capital improvements—such as new buildings, equipment, furniture, and renovations to existing facilities—as well as start-up grants for new programs that address significant financial challenges faced by patients undergoing solid organ transplants. Furthermore, the trust supports challenge or matching grants that demonstrate a likelihood of securing ongoing external or institutional backing. A portion, up to 25% of the trust’s income, may also be used to support research aimed at improving transplant methods. Grants are typically made for a period of up to three years. However, there are explicit limitations on the use of funds. The trust does not fund endowments, goodwill advertising, projects intended to supplant current funding sources, indirect or overhead costs associated with academic or governmental institutions, or grants to individuals. Applications are accepted throughout the year, but to be considered at the annual grant meeting, they must be submitted by June 30. Organizations seeking to apply must be Georgia-based and possess 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The application review process includes an assessment of the submitted proposal materials, possible site visits, interviews, and input from advisory sources. All communications regarding grant proposals must be routed through Philanthropic Services at Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.; direct contact with bank officers is not permitted. Applicants are required to comply with reporting obligations during the grant period, including periodic updates and a final report. For inquiries or technical support related to the grant application process, applicants can reach out via email at grantadministration@wellsfargo.com or call 1-888-235-4351.
