Recreation Trails Program

The 2024 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) provides approximately $1,200,000 in funding to support the construction, maintenance, and enhancement of recreational trails and trailhead facilities that are open to the public. Eligible applicants include local, state, and federal governmental agencies, qualified private organizations, and registered nonprofits. Grants range from $10,000 to $100,000, with motorized projects eligible for higher funding amounts. The program requires a 20% match from the sponsor, who must initially fund the project and seek reimbursement for up to 80% of the total project cost. Applications are due by February 2, 2024, and awards will be announced in late spring 2024. Pre-Applications (Letters of Intent) are due by September 15, 2023.
