The Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC), operating under the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), offers the Mission Support Grant Program to strengthen nonprofit organizations that deliver arts and culture services across the state. This program is tailored to nonprofit organizations that have a primary mission in arts and culture, as confirmed by their National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) code. It supports the long-term infrastructure and sustainability of these institutions, which play a vital role in civic and educational life throughout Michigan.
Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits whose core purpose aligns with arts and culture as reflected in their IRS filings. Funding through the Mission Support Grant can be used in a variety of ways that support organizational growth and service delivery, including operational support, facility enhancement and equipment purchases, transportation initiatives, professional and organizational development, and arts education programming. Applicants may request funding in one or multiple of these categories through a single application.
As of now, the Mission Support Grant Program is closed, and MACC has not announced a specific timeline for the FY26 application cycle. However, MACC has confirmed that funds awarded under the FY26 cycle must be expended between March 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to regularly visit MACCโs website and subscribe to their newsletter for updates. The application process is conducted entirely online through the SmartSimple platform.
Current grantees from FY25 are reminded that their final report is due by October 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. These reports must be submitted via SmartSimple. If there have been changes in project staff or grant officials, organizations must submit a Grant Change Form through the portal.
Though the application cycle has not yet opened, the Mission Support Grant has historically been part of an annual cycle, suggesting that a new round is likely forthcoming. Prospective applicants are advised to prepare by reviewing their eligibility documentation, clarifying their NTEE codes, and assessing which categories of funding best align with their strategic needs.
