For example, the Community Impact Fund supports a broad range of projects including arts, social services, and volunteer efforts with a maximum award of $3,000. Youth hockey programs can apply through the CLK Youth Hockey Fund or the David Wiitanen & Slim McLean Memorial Youth Hockey Fund with maximum requests ranging from $2,300 to $2,800.
Environmental initiatives can seek support from the Environmental Fund for projects involving public health or outdoor recreation with awards up to $2,600. Historical preservation efforts in Houghton County may apply for up to $1,200 through the Houghton County Historical Preservation Fund. The Joe Freed Empowerment Fund provides up to $4,200 for programs assisting individuals with mental or developmental disabilities.
Additional opportunities include funding for cross-country skiing programs through the Keweenaw Cross Country Skiing Fund ($2,500 max), youth-focused initiatives via the Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund (up to $9,300), and larger grants aimed at promoting wellness and outdoor recreation access through the Copper Shores Community Wellness and Recreation Fund which offers awards up to $40,000.
All funded projects must be completed within one year of receiving an award. Applications are due by October 21, 2024.
