Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant Program
The Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant program, funded by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, offers $1,000 to $10,000 grants to public entities and 501(c)(3) nonprofits in Pennsylvania for projects promoting education, outdoor engagement, wayfinding, trails, active transportation, and placemaking within the Susquehanna Greenway corridor.
The Susquehanna Greenway Mini-Grant, administered by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership (SGP), supports small-scale projects that enhance the Susquehanna Greenway corridor across Pennsylvania. This grant aims to strengthen public connections to the river and its surrounding environments by funding initiatives that align with SGP's mission of weaving together communities, trails, and natural spaces. The Greenway spans over 500 miles and includes river access points, parks, trails, and towns along the Susquehanna River. The Round 4 application window runs from September 2, 2025, through October 31, 2025. Awards will be announced in December 2025, and the contract period for funded projects will run from January 1 through October 31, 2026. Final closeout reports are due by November 30, 2026. A total of $40,000 is available for this round, with a maximum request of $10,000 per application. Applicants may submit more than one application, but only one grant will be awarded per organization or public entity. Eligible applicants include public entities such as counties, municipalities, and municipal agencies, as well as 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations registered with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Charities and eligible to receive DCNR funding. Ineligible applicants are encouraged to partner with an eligible entity. All proposals must fall within the Susquehanna Greenway corridor and in one of the 22 counties the river passes through. Projects must be completed within 10 months of the contract start date. Grant funds may be requested for projects in one of four categories: Education & Outreach, Wayfinding & Signage, Parks, Land & Water Trails and Active Transportation, and Temporary Placemaking. Specific examples of eligible activities include interpretive signage, educational materials, feasibility studies for trails, community engagement activities, and short-term placemaking projects. Ineligible expenses include operations or maintenance equipment, political activities, property acquisition, hospitality, or fundraising efforts. A 1:1 match is required, which may be fulfilled through cash or in-kind contributions such as volunteer time, donated services, or materials. Matching funds must not originate from DCNR sources and cannot be spent before the start of the contract period. If a match is not yet secured, applicants must explain the plan and timeline for securing it in the application. Successful applications will be selected based on criteria including alignment with SGP's mission, community benefit, sustainability practices, collaboration with partners, realistic timelines and budgets, and match readiness. Projects located in designated Susquehanna Greenway River Towns or on designated Greenway trails will receive bonus points in the evaluation process. All funded activities must include appropriate credit to both SGP and DCNR on signage and promotional materials. Questions may be directed to info@susquehannagreenway.org or by calling 570-478-0178.
