Grant Description

The Placer County Fish and Game Commission is currently accepting applications for its 2025 grant cycle. This annual initiative is designed to support projects that align with the goals of safeguarding, conserving, propagating, and preserving the fish and wildlife resources within Placer County. Eligible proposals must be consistent with the objectives established under California Fish and Game Code, Section 13103. Grant recipients are typically nonprofit organizations, schools, community groups, or individuals engaged in activities that promote fish and wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, public awareness, and resource education. The Commission, which operates as an advisory body to the Placer County Board of Supervisors, plays a critical role in guiding conservation-related policy and programmatic initiatives across the county. Comprised of seven appointed members, the Commission’s mission includes increasing public awareness and education, supporting habitat improvement, and providing strategic oversight of county resources that affect local fish and wildlife populations. Funded through the Fish and Game Fund—composed of 50% of base fine revenues from fish and game code violations within the county—the program awards grants up to $1,000. These funds may be used for scientific research, wildlife rehabilitation, educational programming, and habitat improvement. Grant funds are not awarded automatically or on a recurring basis; applicants must reapply each year the program is offered. Additionally, follow-up reports, including evaluations and photographs, are required before future applications can be considered. Applications must be submitted no later than September 3, 2025. Following submission, proposals will be reviewed by commissioners and applicants will present their projects on September 24, 2025. A final vote on awards will take place at the Commission's meeting on October 22, 2025, and funding will be disbursed after the meeting minutes are published. The awardees will also be publicly announced shortly thereafter. Applicants are required to submit a completed application form along with Form W-9 and Form 590 tax forms. Nonprofits with annual incomes exceeding $25,000 must also include a Form 990. The application asks for organizational background, current programs and goals, details about the proposed use of funds, and evaluation methods for assessing impact. Depending on the type of grant requested—general operating or program support—applicants must answer between five and six narrative questions, with optional sections for volunteer contributions and board member information. Completed applications should be sent to Darryl Mitani at the Placer County Fish and Game Commission, located at 11477 E Ave, Auburn, CA 95603-2799. Email submissions can be directed to dmitani@placer.ca.gov, and inquiries can also be made via phone at 530-889-7372. This funding opportunity is not offered on a rolling basis but does recur annually. The next anticipated cycle is expected to open in July 2026.
