TC Energy’s Social Impact Program
This program provides funding to community organizations near TC Energy's operations in North America to support projects that promote equity, sustainable development, and community engagement.
The Build Strong program is a key component of TC Energy’s Social Impact initiative, which provides strategic investments to strengthen communities located near the company’s operations and infrastructure projects across North America. Guided by a clear set of community investment criteria, the program supports initiatives that align with TC Energy’s core values of equity, engagement, and measurable positive impact. Investments are made with a focus on creating shared value between the business and its surrounding communities, with a strong emphasis on partnerships that promote diversity, inclusion, and local capacity building. TC Energy considers applications from nonprofit organizations operating within an approximate 30-kilometre (20-mile) radius of its project sites. Proposals must align with at least one of the program’s focus areas, address a clearly defined community need, and include a plan for measuring outcomes. Additionally, proposals that provide engagement opportunities for TC Energy employees are encouraged. Although many well-qualified applications are received each year, meeting the criteria does not guarantee funding due to limited annual resources. Funding typically ranges from $2,500 to $25,000 per grant, especially for first-time applicants. Larger grants may be considered for projects with regional or national reach that benefit multiple communities. Ineligible uses of funding include infrastructure or capital projects, operating expenses (e.g., wages, rent, utilities), fundraising, event sponsorships, travel, and initiatives involving lobbying, firearms, or discriminatory practices. A full list of ineligible categories is provided in the program guidelines. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations serving communities in close proximity to TC Energy’s operations. Organizations that benefit Indigenous communities—defined as initiatives where more than 75% of beneficiaries are Indigenous—are directed to apply through a dedicated application process on the Indigenous Community Legacy page. For all applicants, eligibility also depends on alignment with TC Energy’s community investment goals and the ability to provide demographic and impact data. The 2025 funding cycle accepted applications on a rolling basis from January 22 to November 7, 2025. That cycle has concluded, and a new round is anticipated to begin in February 2026. Once the new application portal opens, applications will again be reviewed on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. Applicants are advised to apply early, as funding may be fully allocated before the official deadline. All grantees are required to submit an impact report within one year of receiving funds. This report must be completed through a survey sent to the primary contact via email and must document the outcomes achieved, compared to the projections submitted in the original application. Even if funds have not been fully spent, a report is still required. Questions about the program can be directed to [email protected].
