Grant Description

TC Energy’s Build Strong Community Investment Program is a corporate social responsibility initiative that provides funding to local and regional community projects that align with TC Energy's values and operations. As a North American energy infrastructure company, TC Energy emphasizes building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with the communities in which it operates. The Build Strong program serves as a vehicle to invest in projects within a 30-kilometre (20-mile) radius of the company’s operations or projects, reflecting TC Energy’s commitment to fostering resilience, inclusivity, and prosperity in its host communities. The program supports projects that align with at least one of TC Energy's core focus areas and demonstrate clear community need or gaps. The funded projects are expected to create shared value between the applicant’s community and TC Energy, as well as offer opportunities for TC Energy employees to engage. Priority is given to initiatives that promote equity and equality, contributing to a more inclusive future. Investments may be directed toward a wide range of community needs, but only if they align with the funder's criteria and fall outside of ineligible categories, which include arts organizations, political initiatives, endowments, and for-profit entities, among others. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be based in or serve a TC Energy community. A comprehensive list of eligible counties and regions across the United States and Canada is provided by TC Energy to help applicants determine alignment. Organizations must demonstrate clear service to one or more of these communities and provide a detailed, specific budget that outlines how TC Energy funds will be utilized—independently from the total project budget. Notably, TC Energy will not cover operating expenses, honoraria, or wages unless it is for a subject matter expert whose compensation does not exceed 30% of the requested funding. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from February 26, 2026, to November 16, 2026. Once the allocated Build Strong funding has been exhausted for the year, the funder will no longer consider additional applications. Applicants are encouraged to submit early in the cycle to improve their chances. Typical funding amounts range from $1,000 to $25,000, with larger grants considered for initiatives with national reach or wide community impact. Organizations are limited to one application per calendar year. The submission process includes completing the online application via TC Energy’s portal. Indigenous groups or initiatives benefiting over 75% Indigenous peoples must apply through a separate Indigenous Community Legacy stream. Once selected, successful grantees are required to report their impact within a year of receiving funds through a TC Energy survey, documenting outcomes tied to the originally proposed metrics. Even if the full grant has not been expended, reporting is still required for the portion used, along with an explanation for the unused balance. The review period for submitted applications is typically 8 to 10 weeks. All communications and notifications will be sent via email. For inquiries or additional support, organizations can contact TC Energy’s Social Impact team at [email protected]. The program runs annually and is expected to recur in future cycles under similar timelines, subject to funding availability.
