Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Grants
This grant provides funding to public and charter schools in specific onsemi communities to implement or expand computer science education, particularly for schools serving high-need student populations.
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming K–12 education in the United States through STEM and career and technical education (CTE) pathways. Its mission is to empower students to thrive in an evolving world. To support implementation and expansion of its programs—PLTW Launch, Gateway, Computer Science, Engineering, Biomedical Science, and Algebra 1 Advantage—PLTW administers grants funded by corporate, foundation, and government partners. These opportunities are tailored to specific geographic regions, grade bands, and program stages aligned with partner priorities. Each grant opportunity targets either the introduction of a new PLTW program or the expansion of an existing one. Eligibility varies by opportunity, but all applicants must meet PLTW’s basic criteria. Eligible applicants include traditional public schools, public charter schools, and private nonprofit schools located within the United States or its territories. Ineligible applicants include for-profit organizations, individuals, informal groups, extracurricular-only programs, and any school or organization based outside the U.S. Meeting the general criteria does not guarantee access to all grant opportunities, as specific eligibility may also depend on location and program scope. Schools can submit one application per PLTW program during the annual grant cycle, which runs from July 1 through June 30. Once submitted, an application remains on file for the entire cycle, allowing PLTW to match it with relevant opportunities as they arise. Grants are awarded throughout the year, with most distributed at the end of the fall semester and start of the spring semester. To maximize consideration, schools are encouraged to apply during the fall. The application process is managed online via the PLTW portal. Applicants are not required to submit letters of intent or concept papers. During the application, schools provide details about planned courses, participating teachers, school and student demographics, implementation readiness, expected impact, and post-grant financial sustainability. A “Save and Return Later” feature allows users to save progress, though once submitted, applications cannot be edited. A PDF preview is available within the portal. Successful applications demonstrate a strong plan, committed leadership, equitable access, and a realistic path to sustainability. Though award amounts are not disclosed publicly, funds typically support the cost of curriculum materials, teacher training, and classroom implementation. Specific awards depend on partner agreements and regional priorities. The grant program does not require matching funds.
