The Town of Christiansburg, Virginia, is currently accepting applications for its 2025 Façade Grant Program, which provides up to $5,000 in matching funds to eligible property and business owners to improve the exterior appearance of commercial and mixed-use buildings. Established in 2019, the program is designed to revitalize and preserve historic and commercial areas in Downtown and Cambria, while now also open to properties across all areas within town limits.
Eligible applicants must be property owners, business owners with property owner consent, or nonprofit organizations whose properties are zoned B-1, B-2, B-3, I-1, I-2, MU-1, or MU-2. Nonprofits must not have received any other Town grant or budgeted funds in the current fiscal year. Projects must be for buildings that are currently occupied or undergoing renovation, and applicants must be able to match the grant amount dollar-for-dollar.
Applications are due by June 30, 2025. Final decisions will be made by Town Council, following evaluation and scoring by a selection committee based on community impact, alignment with planning goals, and historical significance. Once awarded, work must be completed by June 30, 2026, after which recipients may submit receipts and proof of payment for reimbursement up to the awarded amount.
Eligible work includes façade stabilization, removal of inconsistent materials, restoration of original architectural features, and landscaping or painting in period-appropriate styles. Certain projects require professional design submissions. Maintenance tasks like mowing and hedge trimming are not eligible, and landscaping or painting alone must be paired with additional approved façade work.
