Experience Support Grant

The Experience Support Grant Program, administered by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC) under the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), is designed to fund arts and culture-related projects for organizations whose primary mission is not arts and culture. This program recognizes that many institutions across the state contribute to Michigan's cultural ecosystem even if the arts are not their central focus. By offering targeted support, the Experience Support Grant expands access to cultural programming and resources in communities statewide. This funding opportunity is open to a wide range of Michigan-based entities, including municipalities, Native American tribal organizations, PreK-12 schools, colleges and universities, and nonprofit organizations that are not primarily focused on arts and culture. Applicants can submit a single grant request for one or more of the following categories: Project Support, Facility Enhancement and Equipment Purchase, Transportation, and Professional or Organizational Development. Currently, the Experience Support Grant Program is closed. MACC has not released a specific timeline for the FY26 cycle but has indicated that awarded funds must be expended between March 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026. Applications must be submitted online through the SmartSimple portal when the system becomes available. All potential applicants are encouraged to follow MACC’s social media channels or sign up for the newsletter to receive timely notifications when the portal opens. Final reports for FY25 recipients are due October 30, 2025, by 11:59 PM ET. These reports must be submitted via the SmartSimple platform, and organizations must use a Grant Change Form to report any updates to key grant contacts. MACC has emphasized that FY26 procedures will differ from prior years, making early engagement and information tracking crucial for applicants. This grant program offers a recurring opportunity for non-arts-focused organizations to engage in cultural programming and infrastructure development that benefits their communities. While specific funding amounts and criteria have not yet been disclosed for FY26, the Experience Support Grant’s consistent inclusion in MACC’s portfolio suggests it will continue to play a significant role in expanding the reach of arts and culture in Michigan.
